About us
We are a community-based organisation providing restorative justice practices for people harmed by sexual abuse, people responsible, their families and community.
Transforming Justice Australia was founded by Dr. Jane Bolitho, an expert in restorative justice, and Thea Deakin-Greenwood, a former community lawyer supporting survivors of sexual violence. They saw a need for a service that listens to the needs of survivors, offers them meaningful justice, encourages accountability from offenders, and recognizes the role of families and communities in responding to sexual abuse.
The organization has grown organically, guided by mentors, the restorative justice community, survivors, and advocates. In its early stages, Transforming Justice Australia received support from the Elizabeth Evatt Community Legal Centre (now Central Tablelands and Blue Mountains Community Legal Centre). Since 2022, we have been auspiced by the Community Restorative Centre, allowing us to focus on our core work: practice, research, advisory services, advocacy, and training.
We are grateful for financial support from Westpac and the Snow Foundation, as well as in-kind support from The Hub Australia. We also appreciate the help of our mentors and advisors, including Emma from Pip and Pod and Bianca Campbell.
Our work continues to evolve, shaped by lived experience and emerging restorative justice practices worldwide. We are inspired by projects like RESTORE Arizona, Project Restore New Zealand, and Community Justice Initiatives Waterloo.
We provide restorative and transformative justice for survivors of sexual abuse, those responsible for harm, and their families and communities.
